11th Annual Medici Circle 5x7 Art Scholarship Fundraiser
donated time as the event photographer & also artwork
Join us on Saturday, January 12, 2019 for the 11th Anniversary Medici Circle 5x7 Art Scholarship Fundraiser - Where the Wild Beasts Art! at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech campus.
Known as one of the most raucous parties of the year, this costume (optional) event brings festive art lovers together annually for food, wine, fun and art to support School of Art scholarships.
Each year an art movement or style from the past informs the evening's theme including the décor, the meal, and most especially as the guest costume theme (which is entirely optional).
This year's theme celebrates the wildly fun and colorful art of Fauvism made famous by French artist practitioners – Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault, André Derain and others. They were called "wild beasts" for their vibrant use of color and expressive form. The Fauve's vibrant color has been combined with the wonderfully playful creatures from Maurice Sendak's, Where the Wild Things Are to create this year's theme.

LOOKING THRU THE GLASS: A LIVING PHOTOGRAPH
“Looking through the Glass: A Living Photograph,” Adrian Whipp (Lumiere Tintype Photography; Austin, Texas) and Victoria Marie Bee (CASP Artist-in-residence) transform 5&J Gallery into a camera obscura, an interactive optical experience for all.

film night: elevator to the gallows
lead by the amazing Paul Allen Hunton, private screening hosted at Studio 4
“Fun fact: Director Louis Malle was only 24 when he made this film.
Fun fact 2: We'll do French things like eat cheese and drink wine.
Fun fact 3: One of Malle's friends suggested he go talk to Miles Davis who was in town for a performance about scoring the film. After a brief conversation and story overview Miles and his musicians IMPROVISED the whole score as they watched the film.
Fun fact 4: Jeanne Moreau was an incredible French actor and absolutely beautiful(her beauty is irrelevant to her skills or person however pertinent for this anecdote). Louis Malle insisted on filming her without makeup and because of that the film processing house REFUSED to make a print of the movie, out of fear of showing her without makeup! Louis Malle talked them into it and his decision was correct, she bares her soul magnificently in a raw and powerful performance. Can't wait to share this movie with you all!!!”

STITCHED & UNSTITCHED
STITCHED & UNSTITCHED
A COLLABORATIVE VIGIL
Victoria Marie Bee presents "Stitched & Unstitched," a collaborative event featuring a solo art exhibition of new works by Stephanie Berrie, & reading organized by Jess Smith of faculty & students from Texas Tech University.
As a continuation of the vigil we began in response to the events in Charlottesville, "Stitched & Unstitched" will also include a reading by local writers committed to remaining vigilant in the face of oppression & inequality. A range of voices will share poetry & prose engaging our national crises & honoring those who have been & continue to be victimized by it. From 7-8pm, outside of Studio 4, Meghan Giles, Jackie Price, Dima Alhesan, Matthew Porto, Valerie Wayson, Jon Bishop, & D. Gilson will share their work with us. We hope to see you there, and at all future events!
